| Euroclad Scales The Heights Of K2 |
Euroclad, the specialist roofing and cladding manufacturer, hasprovided an exciting
range of aluminium standing seam roofs at the newly constructed K2 sports and leisure complex in Crawley, West Sussex.
The design demanded several different standing seam roofs, of both convex and concave waveform curves of varying radii.
K2 houses many facilities including an Olympic-size 50 metre swimming pool, a 12 metre high climbing rock, squash and badminton courts, indoor bowls rinks, and a large multipurpose sports hall. The high specification building was constructed by main contractor Kier with roofing contractor SD Samuels.
For the sports hall, a fully tested Euroseam system was chosen in order to meet specific acoustic requirements.
While the roof of the swimming pool employs the same plain mill Euroseam as the sports hall, the sheets feature a smooth pre-curved ridge. Euroclad also provided a crimp-curved, perforated structural deck, which obviates the need for purlins and offers long spans. The Euroseam sheets were produced on-site, self curved to the radius of the roof, and lifted using Euroclad's unique spreader beam.
Recent investment in Euroseam has culminated in a new on-site curving facility which helps avoid logistical problems and provides unerring production of curves and waveforms. Euroseam has superb weatherability with a low profile pan allowing excellent drainage at low pitches.
