APL 'standing seam' lead look-alike roof specified for conservation area |
Broxtowe College in Nottinghamshire with 'Standing Seam' roof by APL
Broxtowe College's large new extension in Nottinghamshire had to blend in with the existing buildings
whilst providing a modern, flexible and versatile accommodation. Various previous roof extensions
were demolished to make way for the new development which, being in a conservation area, had to be
sympathetic in design to both the college and to the area.
Designers, Specifiers and Project Managers on the project were Davis Langdon & Everest (previously Carter
Walker Associates). They specified the roof to be constructed with a profile supplied by Architectural
Profiles Ltd. (APL) of Reading which emulated a traditional lead standing seam roof. The company had
previously worked with APL on a Royal Mail project in a conservation area where the same profile was
specified to meet similar aesthetic requirements with great success.
The profile is AP 45/50 SF secret clip-fix system, one of a comprehensive range of roofing and decking
profiles from APL which, in turn, compliment the APL range of flat panel and rainscreen systems and wall
cladding profiles.
Architectural Profiles prides itself on being a full service company working closely with architects and
specifiers to satisfy particular aesthetic or performance requirements. Most profiles are now manufactured
by APL in the UK and are of a strength and durability which APL is confident outperforms most of their
imported competitors.
