The Byre Theatre in St. Andrews featuring APL Louvre cladding systems.
The Byre Theatre in St. Andrews is winning much deserved National architectural acclaim
- not only for its innovative and striking construction, but also for the way that modern
materials have been blended so sympathetically and creatively with the traditional architectural
heritage for which the town is so famous.
St. Andrews, the spiritual home of the world's greatest golf tournament, and currently playing
host to Prince Edward, has probably one of the most uncompromising and demanding heritage and
conservation policies in the U.K. Given this fact, the successful interplay between natural
stone, glass and timber together with the modern aluminium louvre profile makes the Byre Theatre
truly exceptional.
The architects, Nicoll Russell Studios in Dundee, specified the AP70LCP louvre profile manufactured
by Architectural Profiles Limited of Woodley, Berkshire, using PVF2 coated aluminium - specified not
only for its ability to withstand the worst of the Scottish elements but also for its elegant
contribution, particularly in the anthracite grey colour, to the Byre project. Installation was by
Jackson Steel Limited of Dundee.
The AP70LCP louvre profile and live louvre system is just part of the AP range of building cladding
products from Architectural Profiles Limited. Other products include:- Roof deckings, AP50 half round
profile, flat panels and KRS Rainscreen systems - in all a range of over 50 products in 40 colours in
3 metals and 9 finishes.
