The Cannon Avent Building featuring APL's broad rib cladding
The stunning new Cannon Avent building in Suffolk has been awarded an Eastern Region RIBA Award,
was recently featured on Channel 4's 'Britain's Best Building' programme and has also been short
listed for the prestigious Sterling prize.
Designed by Fletcher Priest Architects, the building set out to become a serious statement of Cannon
Avent's company stature and energetic enthusiasm in the future. The futuristic look was generated
by the creative use of curved glazing and a broad ribbed profiled metal cladding system provided to
the project by Architectural Profiles Ltd. of Reading who also supplied the roof profile and lining system.
A Fletcher Priest spokesperson said " Although basically a simple rectangular building with pitched
roofs, its character is defined by curved walls of carefully considered steel cladding: broad profiles
give the building scale and emphasise the horizontal, allowing its 11m height to hug the ground. It is
a complex special grey-green colour that appears almost blue in certain lights - a shade nobody can quite
put their finger on."
Architectural Profiles said " The use of broad rib in this manner and scale is quite unusual. Our
congratulations go to Fletcher Priest for such a dramatic and creative use of one of our profiles."
