Tata Steel Europe (formerly Corus) is Europe's second largest steel producer. With main steelmaking operations in the UK and the Netherlands, the company supplies steel and related services to the construction, automotive, packaging, material handling and other demanding markets worldwide. Products for the building envelope are manufactured at our Shotton plant in North Wales. Here, we focus on responsibly managing our impacts at Shotton, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, and developing products and expertise to help build better and more sustainable buildings. We have set ourselves a challenging target to deliver a 50% reduction in Shotton’s CO2 emissions by 2012, and have already reduced our carbon footprint by 26% in the last two years.

Colorcoat® products

Colorcoat® pre-finished steel products are used for building envelope applications from industrial to residential. Our key products are Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra®, the ultimate in durability, and Colorcoat Prisma®, which provides aesthetics that last. Both products are backed by our market leading Confidex® Guarantee of up to 40 years with no inspection or maintenance required to retain its validity.

With our focus on sustainability, we look at our products through their whole life including the role they can play in reducing the operational impacts of buildings, and we work with leading universities to research and publish information about designing energy efficient buildings. In 2009/10 we developed pre-finished steel products to reduce lighting requirements, support renewable technologies and facilitate water harvesting.

As a leader in metal envelopes for nearly 50 years, we have made sustainability a key part of what we do and how we work with the market. The environmental challenges we all face are significant and we are working hard to reduce our impacts and be a part of the solution.
