Guidance for the design of metal roofing and cladding to comply with approved document L: 2001 Technical Papers

Design guidance to enable metal roof and wall cladding to comply with Approved Document L2 is now available from the Metal Cladding and Roofing Manufacturers Association (MCRMA).

This 44-page, full-colour publication, titled Guidance for the design of metal roofing and cladding to comply with Approved Document L2:2001, is designed to assist specifiers, manufacturers and installers of metal roof and wall cladding to comply with the requirements of Approved Document L2 of the Building Regulations which come into force in April 2002.

The publication gives guidance as to the calculation of U values, thermal bridging, infra-red surveys and air leakage testing. The guidance is designed to be relevant to both twin-skin and composite panel systems.

The guide also includes an appendix of typical details that occur in metal-clad industrial and commercial buildings which are likely to lead to thermal bridges that affect the internal surface temperature and heat loss from the building and suggests a range of modifications that might be made to improve performance.
