Conventions For Calculating U-Values, f-Values And Ψ-Values For Metal Cladding Systems Using Two- And Three Dimensional Thermal Calculations

Specifiers and builders are all aware of the need to save energy use in buildings to limit the production of CO2 that adds to global warming. The introduction of more highly insulated structures resulting from this need to save energy has also led to a requirement for more sophisticated methods for calculating the heat loss and surface temperatures in buildings than was previously felt to be adequate.

These issues are dealt with in MCRMA's latest technical publication which provides the information necessary for the calculation of heat loss through plane areas (U-Value), heat loss through thermal bridges (Ψ-value) and the lowest surface temperature (f-value) for both two and three-dimensional heat flow calculations. The information is designed so that users of different software packages can achieve consistent efforts when starting from the same construction data.
